• ABOUT
Tanzmanschine Interactive Dance Installation is a convergence of performance and film. The powerful feeling of controlling sound is something we want to share with the public. So we decided to rework Tanzmanschine into an interactive dance installation for participants. The installation consists of a metal arena, within which we find a dance floor. This arena is surrounded by four projection screens where the film is projected. Furthermore, the arena has an elevated platform for audience members where they can spectate the dance floor. All areas are free to enter for anyone wanting to experience the interactive installation.

    PARTICIPANT EXPERIENCE
In the interactive dance installation, the film is played as a movement inspiration for dancing participants. During the installation, participants can perform six different scenes through their interaction. They can control the volume, steering parameters of video effects, and dance together with their own blob representation on screen.
This interactive installation transforms spectators into active participants, allowing them to experience the same technological empowerment that Niek discovered in the original performance.

As the metal arena has an option to go to a lifted platform, spectators can view the interactor. To talk with them, figure movements out together and give them energy from above turns the metal arena into a communal playground, allowing the participant to switch positions as they like.
